Caging

We provide a range of caging options, from pet birdcages to different types of cage front and cage construction materials and tools.

When designing the appropriate caging for your birds you don’t just need to consider how heavy you need the wiring to be and how much space they will need. You need to think about a wide range of issues, such as ease of cleaning, pest control, the most appropriate materials available, how to design the cages to minimize disturbance from neighboring birds and the bird keeper, how to make sure you can observe your birds without intruding upon them and, not least, cost!

We are happy to help with advice where we can. All bird keepers inevitable find things they wish they had done differently when they design and build a bird room so the best thing you can do before you start is to speak to others – as many people as you can. If you are invited, never turn down an opportunity to visit a bird room and see how the systems work. Most bird keepers will be only too pleased to point out what does work, and grumble about what they will do differently next time! Just because you don’t like the sound of the way somebody keeps their birds don’t ignore them – there may well be a gem in there that you haven’t come across. You don’t have to do everything people tell you, but you should consider it before making your own decisions. Make notes and incorporate them into your designs.

Make sure you build different types of accommodation. You won’t just want breeding cages or flights. Remember young birds and moulting accommodation, and position it so as not to disturb your breeding birds, but also beware that any empty cages are an excuse to buy more birds when you see something you like the look of!

Make sure you can feed, water and bath your birds easily and always incorporate an air lock to aviaries – it doesn’t matter how careful you are, sooner or later somebody will get past you!
